ABOUT THE ARTIST 1966... Roger chose a life challenge to create paintings and drawings with tools and materials that have been used for centuries. The question was/is how does one take color, oil, canvas, charcoal and brushes made from hair... put it all together, so the work comes from within... so the viewer goes ahhh, and can rest for some time in the work? 1968... Anchoring in Provincetown harbor he began his studies with D. Risho, a meticulous drawing master, R. Risk, a Zen abstract painter, and H. Hensche, an impressionistic colorist. A winter fellowship providing a studio, supplies and food was received in 1969 from the on-going Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. 1970... Was a time of discovery and travel to many places. He was part of social and environmental protests and helped create paintings and mixed art happenings in many places. 1980... Living in Vermont, Roger began building a global Non-Profit 501C social and environmental project called Community.org. The idea... connect people and communities around the world so information, ideas and material goods can be shared. 1992... Roger was a participant and introduces this one world, on people, community project at the Earth Summit, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 1996... He built an inexpensive, functional, live-aboard studio/boat to be as close to nature as possible. This allowed time to paint and study every day, motor/sailing the ICW between North Carolina and Key West. 2000... In the spring of 1999 he stepped ashore just north of Wilmington, NC and took up residence in the Little House Studio. he teaches his accumulated knowledge to serious student artists and spends spare time with family and friends. Roger has been painting for thirty plus hears and has completed more than 550 works. He has exhibited in mural competitions, one man and group shows in Galleries, universities and cafes throughout the North American continent. |
